This 45 min. BBC production from 2000 tells the life of Alexander von Humboldt, focusing mainly on his American travels from 1799-1804. The docu drama-style of the film is mixed with frequent commentary by Humboldt scholars, historians, and travelers, among them Laura Dassow Walls, Andreas Daum, Jason Wilson, Edmunds Bunkse, Redmond O’Hanlon, and David Attenborough.
The film was originally broadcast in the UK in June 2000 as part of a three part series entitled ‚Wilderness Men‘. The other two episodes detailed the North American trade route pioneers, Lewis and Clark and the Anglo-Irish polar explorer Ernest Shackleton.
