Heart of the Andes – Humboldt’s Science in the Art of Frederic Edwin Church is a short documentary produced by KUMedia Productions (University of Kansas) and edited by Jim Jewell. The documentary’s script was written by Frank Baron, Professor emeritus of German at the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures at KU.
The film presents Humboldt’s quest for unity in nature and interprets the famous graphic of the “Geography of Plants” as a model for Church’s panorama of nature, which is permanently featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
